CRANE & MILL MOTORS (1254)
The MD 400 series General Electric (GE) crane and mill motors have not been manufactured in decades. They were replaced first by the MD 600 series frames which in turn were replaced by the 800 series frames. There are two different model for each 400 series frame AE and AE2. For example there is an MD 410 AE 2 and a MD 410 AE. THE MD 410AE armature is longer than the MD 410 AE2 armature. One can tell the difference by looking at the bearing journals. The AE bearing journal extends from the frame approximately 3" long where as the AE 2 extends out less than an inch. The AE2frames are interchangable physically with the 600 series frame and 800 series frames, but has a lower horsepower rating.
