8-1/2", CUTLER HAMMER, TYPE S, AC BRAKE

|
The majority of DC Brakes are used in steel mills. In the old days each manufacturer used their own design and
all the DC Brakes were different. Each brake had different dimensions and different electrical characteristics.
A DC brake was not interchangeable. In 1969 the steel industry had an association called the Association of Iron
and Steel Engineers or AISE. In 1969 the AISE standardized the design of brakes so all the manufacturers of DC
Brakes manufactured their brakes to the AISE brake standards. From that day forward all 10" DC Brakes (10 inch dc brake)
manufactured by Cutler Hammer were physically interchangeable with 10" DC Brakes (10 inch dc brake) manufactured
by Westinghouse and/or all other US manufacturers.
